WAGAAN OF BLACK LYNX REACTS TO GEE’S STATEMENT THAT GAMBIAN MUSIC CAN’T PAY HIS DAUGHTER’S SCHOOL FEES
I know you’ve already started asking yourself what should be Waagan of Black Lynx’s reaction to Gee’s statement. Recently, Waagan interviewed Gee on Fiila TV in which Gee made it very clear that what they pay him at the Gambia’s biggest show (Oen Mic Festival ) can’t pay his daughter’s school Fees.
We approach Waagan to see if he has any reactions to make on the allegations made by Gee.
According to GEE, “ Gambian music is not paying the bills, Gambian music can’t pay my daughter’s school fees, Gambian music can’t get me a live band, Gambian music can’t get me the proper contacts I need, so why should I still waste my time on Gambian music?” Quizzed Gee
Reacting to Gee, Waagan Faye speaking on behalf of Black Lynx sai “ I will not comment much on the school fees issue because I don’t know how much Gee is paying for his daughter’s fee. What I can say is that I still maintain that we have the highest tariff of paying the artist than any other event organizer in the Gambia. Open Mic enters in to an agreement with any artist that should perform and this is prior to the show. We pay everybody who participates in Open Mic and we think it’s fair enough and that’s why they want to participate every year. Gee speaks from his perspective and he has rights to his opinions. This does not mean it applies to everyone. I have seen Gee turn down amounts that other artists will accept. I must also say that Gee’s music will be forever remembered in the history of the Gambia and Gambian music. He has left a legacy that the next generation can learn from; I wish him and his family all the best in their feature endeavors” Concluded Waagan.
