WELCOME TO THE NEW GAMBIA WHERE CHILDREN OF TOP GOVERNMENT MINISTERS LIKE THE ACTING VICE PRESIDENT MADAM FATOUMATTA TAMBAJANG AND FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISNTER OUSAINOU DARBOE ARE ABUSING GOVERNMENT VEHICLES WHILE PERMANENT SECRETARIES, DIRECTORS, MPS STRUGGLE TO CATCH A RIDE OR BOARD PUBLIC TRANSPORT.
Nafisatou Darboe, one of the favorite daughters of lawyer Ousainou Darboe, Gambia's Foreign Minister and his second wife (Sally Darboe), has started working at Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) for about 3 weeks now. Nafisatou shares the same birthday with Lawyer Darboe.
Our source who chooses to remain anonymous, doesn't know what Nafisatou's position at GRA is exactly, but they can confidently confirm that she's never had a job until 2 weeks ago when she started working at GRA. She's usually transported back and forth to work by one of the vehicles of The Gambia government, a black Pajero number plate GG0602. This is the car her dad used to use prior to being assigned the one he is currently using.
The Gambia government vehicle is usually parked at the GRA from when it drops off Nafisatou until when she gets off or has somewhere to go. According to our source, it literally drives her everywhere.
In a similar note, Aja Khadijah Tambajang, the daughter of the Minister of Women's Affairs who is also overseeing the office of the Vice President Madam Fatoumatta Tambajang is also another beneficiary of The Gambia government vehicle.
Aja does not work for the Gambian government currently but comfortably drives herself in a GG car.
She used to work for the ministry of Information until about 2 years ago when she went to do her Master's degree.
Upon return, she set up her own Consultancy firm "Makallimatta Consulting" which specializes in media consulting. Aja Khadijah does not work for the government. Our source was concerned that Nafisatou Darboe whatever her position is at GRA, should not have a government car with a government driver assigned to her. Word is going around that even Directors and some Permanent Secretaries don’t drivthe kind of cars these 2 women are driving. Even some of the long time and newly elected National Assembly members don’t also have cars. Some of them catch rides or join public transport like everyone else. In one of their recent sittings, they talked about their urgent need for cars to enable them to do their jobs right. While the NAMS are struggling, the daughters of Ministers are driving these nice cars claimed to be utility cars for their families. We reached out to Aja Khadijah for her reaction to the story but it’s been over a week now she still hasn’t responded. Nafisatou could not also be reached.
Now the million Dalasi question is, should the daughters of the ministers and other family members be driving government vehicles like in the case of Nafisatou and Khadijah while other top government officials struggle daily to get back and forth to work? Is this the “New Gambia” we all wanted?
