Ebrima Sonko a Gambian Soldier currently serving as part of the Gambian Contingent 'Gamcoy 20' serving in Sudan's troubled region of Darfur has died in the early hours of this morning. The Gambian Contingent left for Darfur in March and they were bid farewell by the Minister of Women Affairs and overseer of the Office of Vice President Hon. Fatoumata Tambanjang Jallow, who in her key note address, assured the Contingent members of President Adama Barrow's unflinching Support. The Chief of Defence, General Masanneh Kinteh also urged the Peace Keepers to maintain standards during their tour of duty and keep flying the Gambia's flag high.
Information reaching us indicates the Ebrima Sonko died of 'Natural Causes' and his remains will be repatriated to The Gambia. We therefore take this opportunity to extent our heartfelt condolences to the Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces, Government and people of The Gambia and to the family of the deceased soldier for this tragedy.
May his soul rest in Peace."
