Pa Omar Jack Country : Gambia City: : Banjul Info: Pa Omar Jack is one of the few artists from The Gambia taking steps to pursue a musical career in the line of mbalax (music genre originating from the Senegambia region).
Over the years it was popularized by artists from Senegal and Gambia, and mainly Senegalese artist Grammy award winner Youssou Ndour , whom Pa Omar idolizes.
His voice is often characterized in many ways by Youssou's influence on the new generation. He has since embarked on an experiment of the authentic Pa Omar sample which has led him to lending his voice on popular radio commercials, notably the coca-cola local jingle. He has worked with various producers, notably Hakeem of Sunland studios, Ellie Nachif of the Yellow gate studio to produce the hit tracks "fandeh" and "guestu len" respectively.
He has also done more studio samples releasing his first promotional single dedicated to the women- "jigueni Gambia" in 2005. This astounding trend of this mbalax genius paved way for him to run a live band called Afri Magic.
As a true son of The Gambia, Pa Omar joined other artists in producing a compilation CD to promote the Banjul Au Summit 2006. His song entitled "nyarri tanka" admonishes Africans to uphold the virtues of the struggles championed by the initiators of African independence. This song is made into a video clip and is currently storming the waves on the National T.V and RTS2 labeled as the best by many music lovers.
Over the years he has played in the club circuits, more usually around the hotel venues with various bands, and has been an opening act for many bands. The 25 year old has created a niche to dispel; the social belief" mbalax from Gambia is dead". Four in five that have heard his songs on the radio especially radio commercials already believe he is not from Gambia. That is just to say Gambian mbalax stars are over shadowed by their Senegalese counterparts in this genre, and very rare to spotlight such talent.
Now working on his debut project, yet to have a working title, Pa is working closely with producer Lamin Manga to create his first sample in the market.
